ITAK Removes Jaffna MP Sridharan as Parliamentary Group Leader

The Ilangai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) party has removed Jaffna District MP Sivagnanam Sridharan from his position as the party’s parliamentary group leader, parliamentary sources confirm.

Reports indicate that a formal letter regarding this decision has already been sent to the Speaker of Parliament.

MP Sridharan faced strong opposition within the party after supporting the appointment of a senior military officer as Auditor General at the Constitutional Council. TNA leaders believe that Sridharan’s stance contradicted the party’s policy on appointing military officers to civilian posts.

The party stated that disciplinary action was necessary, emphasizing that individuals who act against the party’s principles and the expectations of voters cannot continue to hold office.

According to internal sources, Batticaloa District MP Shanakkian Rasamanikkam has been appointed as the new parliamentary group leader. The decision is attributed to Rasamanikkam’s emergence as a young leader, having won in the Batticaloa District while the party secured victories in all other districts nationwide.
