The Daily Mirror reports that Sri Lanka Customs has imposed an additional fine of Rs. 700 lakh on the Rolls-Royce car imported by businessman Dudley Sirisena.
The fine was imposed because the importer concealed the true details of the car during the import process. Sri Lanka Customs confirmed that misleading information had been provided regarding the “model” of the Rolls-Royce. Upon verification, Customs levied the corresponding fine.
As a result, the Rolls-Royce imported for Mr. Dudley Sirisena was released only after the payment of all applicable taxes and fines, amounting to a total of Rs. 3.7 million.
Mr. Dudley Sirisena is regarded as a friend of the government. However, Customs has clarified that no special privileges were granted in this case.
