Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, speaking in Parliament, commended the steps taken to address the needs of children with autism and emphasized that such initiatives should be further strengthened.
He highlighted the case of a child suffering from a lung infection who requires enzyme medication to support digestive function. However, the necessary medicine has not been provided. Despite funds being allocated, the medicine remains unavailable, leaving 35 children without access to this essential treatment.
Premadasa pointed out that the shortage is due to shortcomings in the tender process for the supply of the medication. He stressed that urgent attention must be given to this issue and called for the medicines to be procured and distributed without delay.
