HNB PLC announces its role as title sponsor of a National aquatic sporting event. The HNB National Short Course Swimming Championships, organized by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union. Scheduled from 11 to 15 December at the Isipathana College pool in Colombo, the five-day meet will feature the country’s top swimmers in the Under 15 and Open categories.

This marks the second time HNB has sponsored a national aquatic event, having previously served as the title sponsor for the HNB National Age Group Aquatic Championships. Recognized as one of two key national championship events on the aquatic sports date space, the championship provides a platform for performance benchmarking, talent discovery, and increased regional participation in competitive swimming.

“HNB has always been dedicated to supporting sports and young athletes, providing them with opportunities to excel is central to our vision. We are proud to sponsor this championship, creating a platform that challenges athletes and inspires the next generation of swimmers.” HNB’s VP- Marketing and Corporate Communications, Upul Adikari noted.

On the significance of this benchmark, Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union Assistant General Secretary Chetiya Wijeratne said, “We sincerely thank HNB for their continued support as title sponsor. Their partnership strengthens the organization of the championship and raises the standard for national competitions. High performance athletes view this meet as an important benchmark, and the involvement of a leading corporate institution like HNB gives confidence to organizers, coaches, and competitors. Their return as title sponsor shows a genuine commitment to the growth of aquatic sport in Sri Lanka.”

HNB continues to advance its investment in the swimming sports vertical under the guidance of national swimmer Kyle Abeysinghe, who serves as the initiative’s brand ambassador. As Sri Lanka’s National Swimming Captain and an Olympic hopeful for Los Angeles 2028, Kyle plays a pivotal role in shaping athlete development and providing strategic insight into high-performance pathways and his partnership with HNB underscores the bank’s steadfast commitment to strengthening support structures for young athletes aspiring to represent Sri Lanka.

The HNB National Short Course Swimming Championships 2025 will welcome schools, clubs, and independent athletes from across the island. With its scale, structure, and competitive depth, the event stands as a decisive fixture in the preparation cycle for future national and international representation.
