Sri Lanka takes center stage and set for history as Scara Live, the live experiences vertical of global sports, gaming and culture agency Scara, partners Afghanistan Tapeball Cricket to launch for the first time, the ‘Tapeball Asia Cup’ and first official continental Tapeball tournament sanctioned by the International Tapeball Council.

The momentous event will take place in September 2026 at the Colombo Cricket Club Ground, featuring top teams from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bangladesh vying for glory. With Sri Lanka as host nation, the Tapeball Asia Cup signals a new era for the sport, expanding its reach and recognition in South Asia.

With Sri Lanka as the host nation, the tournament is a major step in expanding Tapeball cricket’s footprint in South Asia, showcasing the country as a key hub for the sport’s growth and international recognition.

Born on the streets of Karachi, Tapeball cricket is a fast‑paced, grassroots format played with a tennis ball wrapped in electrical tape. Known for accessibility and raw talent, Tapeball has grown into a widely played and competitive phenomenon throughout South Asia and the Middle East.

Scara Live will manage the tournament’s full production scope, including broadcast, talent management, and digital amplification. The focus is to deliver a high-energy, culturally resonant sports experience, designed for a new generation of fans.
Amir Siddiqi, Spokesperson, International Tapeball Council, said, “Tapeball is one of the most authentic and widely played formats of cricket across South Asia and the Middle East, rooted in street culture and community play. With the Tapeball Asia Cup, we are taking a defining step toward formalising and globalising the sport. Partnering with Scara Live allows us to combine competitive intensity with a modern, youth-first presentation that reflects how today’s audiences consume sport.”

Sheer Rahman Khater, Representative, Afghanistan Tapeball Cricket, added, “We are proud to lead the first-ever Tapeball Asia Cup, a landmark moment for the sport and its growing community. Tapeball has always been about passion, accessibility, and raw talent. With Scara Live powering the live experience, we are confident of delivering a tournament that connects with fans across the region and elevates Tapeball into a new era of organised competition.”

Manoj George, Founder, Scara, noted, “The inaugural Tapeball Asia Cup in Sri Lanka is more than a tournament. It is a celebration of street-born passion, raw talent, and the cricketing culture that unites South Asia. We are excited to bring this to life through world-class execution, storytelling, and fan engagement.”

As fans around the region look forward to the upcoming tournament, the Tapeball Asia Cup lays the foundation for future structured competitions, broader fan engagement, and future global opportunities for Tapeball cricket.

Fans and newbies to the game are able to follow the official Tapeball Asia Cup Instagram page Tapeball Asia Cup for updates on teams, schedule, and broadcast details.
