President Anura Dissanayake celebrates his 57th birthday today, drawing wishes from numerous political figures and civil leaders across the country.
Born on 24 November 1968 in Devahuwa village in the Matale District, Mr. Dissanayake currently serves as the 9th Executive President of Sri Lanka. As the leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), he played a pivotal role in establishing the National People’s Power (NPP), strengthening it into a significant political force.
He was elected Executive President following the presidential election held on 21 September 2024, where he emerged victorious in a contest dominated by a longstanding power struggle between two major political parties.
Since assuming office, President Dissanayake has placed strong emphasis on combating corruption and implementing a new policy framework aimed at stabilizing and revitalizing Sri Lanka’s struggling economy.
In line with his preference for simplicity, no special state ceremonies or celebrations have been planned for his birthday. Instead, the President is expected to continue with his regular duties, focusing on serving the people and the country.
