Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody has made legal representations to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), which is currently probing allegations that he misappropriated funds while serving at the Fertiliser Corporation in 2015, a senior official said.
The minister has requested that a written submission he provided be considered before legal action is filed against him.
Earlier, the Commission granted approval to CIABOC Director General Ranga Dissanayake to proceed with filing legal action against the minister.
The case is expected to be filed in the High Court against Minister Jayakody and two others on charges related to the misappropriation of Rs. 8 million.
According to the investigation, Mr. Jayakody had served as the head of the tender board that awarded a disputed tender now under scrutiny.
