Although the UNP Working Committee has decided that the party will participate in the public rally scheduled for the 21st in Nugegoda, former Governor Navin Dissanayake says that he will not take part in it.
Posting a special message on X, he points out that he informed the party of this position during the most recent management committee meeting.
At that meeting, Dissanayake had emphasized that the UNP should unite with the SJB and other parties — not with the Pohottuwa (SLPP).
On the 9th, we were the first to reveal through our “State Secrets” segment that Navin Dissanayake would not participate in the Nugegoda rally on the 21st.

November 9 State Secrets Revelation — A Rebellion Against Ranil
However, a group of individuals who still remain within the SJB but who received fuel station licenses, liquor licenses, and land from Ranil Wickremesinghe have been planning to unite Ranil with the SJB. But by now, that plan also seems to have failed. It appears that several senior UNP members have also begun to understand the political games Ranil is playing.
Accordingly, through this week’s “State Secrets” segment, we reveal that another serious internal rebellion is emerging against Ranil within the UNP. Senior members have decided to take a firm stand against the Ranil–Vajira–Sagala trio who currently control the UNP.
First Sign: Ruwan Wijewardene Steps Away
The first sign was the decision by Ruwan Wijewardene, the Deputy Leader of the UNP, to withdraw from all political activities.
According to information we have received:
Ruwan has already informed Ranil that he is stepping down from the position of Deputy Leader
He has requested that another person be appointed to the post
He has said he will pause politics temporarily to devote time to his family’s business
Since making this notification, he has not engaged in any party activities.
Ranil made considerable efforts throughout last week to prevent this news from leaking, as appointing someone else to the now-vacant deputy leadership position would reveal a major internal crisis. Therefore, Ranil has kept the post vacant.
Navin Dissanayake and Several Other Seniors to Skip the 21st Rally
Another senior UNPer, Navin Dissanayake, has already announced that he will not attend the Nugegoda rally on the 21st.
Today, we reveal another important fact: a large number of senior UNP members have decided not to attend the rally.
Rajitha Senaratne too stated at last week’s press conference that continuing politics with the Pohottuwa has both good and bad sides, and that he has already informed the UNP of his position. Therefore, Rajitha is also unlikely to attend the rally.
Accordingly, by the 22nd, even the few remaining members around Ranil may withdraw, becoming the leading figures in the next wave of rebellion against him.
Long History of Rebellion Against Ranil
Revolts against Ranil within the UNP did not begin recently — they began in 2005.
As a result, the UNP, which had nearly 100 MPs, fell to zero MPs under Ranil’s leadership.
Thus, the current internal uprising is likely to be the final rebellion against Ranil.
We say this because the remaining senior members of the party are preparing to present a strong proposal urging Ranil to immediately step down as UNP leader and pave the way for a UNP–SJB reunification.
We believe that once this proposal is submitted, it will not receive much public attention. But discussions on this matter have already begun in several places.
With that, we conclude the first phase of the UNP rebellion through this week’s State Secrets segment.
