It has been reported that a loan amounting to Rs. 246 lakh was granted from the President’s Fund to a former Prime Minister and a Member of Parliament, despite the fact that loan facilities were not permitted to be issued. Sri Lanka Latest News
According to the findings, this loan has still not been recovered.
This information was revealed through an audit conducted by the National Audit Office.
The loan provided to the Member of Parliament was issued in 2015, amounting to Rs. 109 lakh, and was granted based on the condition of recovery.
Meanwhile, the former Prime Minister received loans in 2012 and 2014, totaling Rs. 298 lakh. Of this amount, Rs. 137 lakh had been categorized for recovery. However, the specified sum remains unpaid as of June 2025.
