Sri Lanka concluded the South Asian Senior Athletics Championships as runners-up, following an intense competition that came to an end today in Ranchi, India.
Competing neck and neck with the host nation, India, in many events, Sri Lanka narrowly missed the top spot in the medal tally by just four gold medals.
Sri Lanka secured a total of 40 medals, comprising 16 gold, 14 silver, and 10 bronze.
India topped the medal standings with 20 gold, 20 silver, and 18 bronze medals, maintaining their dominance in regional athletics.
Notably, Sri Lanka and India were the only two nations to win gold medals at the championship.
Among the remaining countries, Nepal managed to win two silver medals, while Bangladesh earned three bronze medals and Maldives claimed one bronze. Bhutan failed to secure any medals.
A contingent of nearly 60 Sri Lankan athletes took part in the tournament, which featured competitors from India, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives, and Bangladesh.
