Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader Udaya Gammanpila filed a complaint with the Bribery Commission this morning (29).
The complaint concerns political activities carried out through the transfer of monthly salaries received by government MPs to the party fund.
Speaking to the media after filing the complaint, Mr. Gammanpila stated that MPs cannot spend their monthly allowances as they wish. He pointed out that 159 government MPs collectively receive more than Rs. 30 million each month, which is then credited to the party fund and used for political purposes. He described this as a misuse of public funds and explained that his complaint requests an investigation into the matter.
Mr. Gammanpila further commented:
“Sending this money to pay for telephone bills, fuel, and office maintenance through the party fund and then using it for political activities amounts to the misuse of public funds. More than Rs. 30 million per month has been misused by all 159 MPs and 160 people including the President. Therefore, we have come to the Bribery Commission today to request that the law be enforced against all 160.”
