CEB Trade Unions Escalate Protest: Withdrawal from Procurement and Tender Processes from Midnight
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) trade unions have announced that they will escalate their ongoing trade union action by refraining from participating in procurement and tender processes starting from midnight today. Sri Lanka Latest News

This decision further intensifies their ongoing work-to-rule campaign, which has been in effect for 17 days as a protest against what they describe as “informal proposals” in the CEB restructuring process.

The trade unions commenced the work-to-rule action at midnight on September 4, citing 16 demands. These demands include opposition to the informal restructuring proposals, addressing illegal actions that cause significant inconvenience to employees, the settlement of outstanding incentives, and the granting of due promotions.

As part of their ongoing protest, CEB workers also took sick leave on September 17 and 18 and organized a demonstration in front of the CEB head office at Colombo Fort.

In light of these developments, the trade unions announced today (21) that they would not only continue the work-to-rule campaign but also implement additional trade union action by abstaining from participating in procurement processes and tender procedures from midnight.
