According to the Mattala Police, police investigations have been started to arrest the owner of the Montero type jeep worth about two crore rupees, which was fraudulently brought to Sri Lanka without paying government duties and customs taxes and was carefully hidden in a house in Mattala area.

This luxury car was seized by the police during a raid conducted according to a personal information received by Inspector Prasada Bandara, Police Station Officer Mattala, that a suspicious vehicle was hidden in a house in Mattala Aluara area under Mattala police jurisdiction. A

When a distant relative from Panadura came to Kataragama, the vehicle they came with had a technical fault and said that they would park it at their home until it was fixed and picked up.

However, due to the failure of the house owner to confirm the proper identity of the owner of the vehicle during the police questioning, the jeep in question was taken into the custody of the police and during the initial investigation it was revealed that the jeep was smuggled into Sri Lanka fraudulently without paying any customs duties or taxes.

In the meantime, this vehicle was brought to Mattala area using the number plates of another vehicle and kept hidden until the files for the relevant vehicle were prepared.

At the time the vehicle was taken into police custody, it was revealed that the registration certificate of the vehicle had been closed and prepared. The Mattala Police have reported the facts to the Tissamaharama Magistrate’s Court and the Tissamaharama Magistrate Mr. Samira Thushara has ordered the Mattala Police to conduct investigations with the help of the customs officers and the officers of the Government’s Customs Office and arrest the suspect and bring him to court. Mattala Police Station Commander Police Inspector Prasad Bandara, Sub-Inspector Sumanasiri, Police Constables Bandara and Dinuka had conducted this raid.
