The government has increased import duties on onions and potatoes following the arrival of around 700 containers into the country, MP Dayasiri Jayasekara stated.
He further noted that this move has created an opportunity for a small group of closely connected businessmen to earn approximately Rs. 100 million. The MP emphasized that an investigation should be carried out to determine who facilitated this process and how these imports were brought into the country.
