President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is scheduled to inaugurate and declare open several new development projects in Jaffna today (01).
The third phase of the Myliddi Fisheries Harbour Development Project will be ceremonially opened this morning under the patronage of the President. This phase includes the provision of essential facilities for the fishing community in the Northern Province, as well as for fishing vessels arriving from the Eastern and Southern Provinces. Among the facilities planned are water and electricity supply, fuel services, cold storage units, net processing centers, auction halls, and a radio communication center. Following the inauguration, the President is also expected to attend a public meeting at the site.
In addition, the Jaffna Regional Office of the Department of Immigration and Emigration will be inaugurated today within the premises of the Jaffna District Secretariat. Equipped with modern technology and all necessary facilities, the new office is being established in response to the steadily increasing number of passport applications from the Northern Province, ensuring residents have more convenient access to services.
The President will also launch the E-Library Program of the Jaffna Library today. This initiative will allow individuals from anywhere in the world to access and consult books from the Jaffna Public Library online, marking a significant step in enhancing global access to Sri Lanka’s literary resources.
Furthermore, construction of the proposed Jaffna International Cricket Stadium will officially commence this afternoon under the patronage of the President. He is also scheduled to join a public meeting at the venue following the launch.
