GMOA Warns of Industrial Action Over Delays in Doctor Transfer Reforms
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has alleged delays in implementing agreements reached with the Minister of Health to address irregularities in the transfer process of doctors.

In a statement, the GMOA said that in recent months, the preparation of transfer lists, execution of transfer orders, and filling of hospital vacancies under the Ministry of Health have not been carried out properly. The association warned that these shortcomings have compelled it to consider industrial action.

According to the GMOA, senior officials of the Ministry have so far failed to implement the verbal promises made by the Health Minister, causing significant dissatisfaction within the association.

The GMOA further stated that it had formally notified the Health Minister in writing regarding these issues and had also briefed its executive council on the previously suspended trade union actions. The association warned that if the Ministry’s Transfer Board fails to implement transfer orders transparently, or if any attempt is made to disrupt the health system, it will not hesitate to take strict action.

The statement also noted that if the Health Minister’s positive response is deliberately delayed in implementing agreed measures, the GMOA will lodge complaints with all relevant authorities, including the Public Service Commission, against the responsible officials.
