US President Donald Trump announced Friday that he will meet with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on Aug. 15 in the state of Alaska.
“The highly anticipated meeting between myself, as President of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“Further details to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he added.
Trump said he is going to meet Putin “very shortly,” but he did not reveal the date and location because he said he did not want to overshadow the framework peace deal he brokered between Azerbaijan and Armenia that was signed earlier Friday at the White House.
Putin would “like to meet as soon as possible,” Trump said.
Trump said Russia and Ukraine will swap territories as part of a peace deal.
“It’s very complicated. But we’re going to get some (territory) back, and we’re going to get some switched. There’ll be some swapping of territories to the betterment of both, but we’ll be talking about that either later, or tomorrow,” he added.
Trump said European leaders want peace between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“President Putin, I believe, wants to see peace, and Zelenskyy wants to see peace.
“Now, President Zelenskyy has to get all of his everything he needs, because he’s going to have to get ready to sign something, and I think he is working hard to get that done,” he added.
US special envoy Steve Witkoff was in Moscow on Wednesday for his fifth visit to Russia since the start of the year. He last met Putin on April 25. The latest visit came two days before Trump’s 10-day deadline for Russia to reach a ceasefire deal with Ukraine.
Yuri Ushakov, a top aide to Putin, said the meeting was “useful and constructive.”
