Commenting on the newly opened casino by John Keells Holdings at the ‘City of Dreams’ hotel, former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka expressed serious concerns about the potential for large-scale money laundering.
Ranawaka stated that the casino has created an avenue for major businesses and corporations to launder illicit funds. He further emphasized that a proper and formal tax policy has not yet been implemented for such establishments, creating a regulatory vacuum.
He also warned that underworld gangs have begun using the facility to launder black money, raising questions about oversight and accountability.
