The Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court has ordered the release of former Member of Parliament Duminda Dissanayake, who had been arrested and later granted bail in connection with the investigation into the ownership of a gold-plated T-56 firearm.

During the hearing held today (29th), Magistrate Chathurika De Silva directed the release of the former MP, citing a lack of both direct and circumstantial evidence in the case.

Duminda Dissanayake was initially arrested on May 23rd in relation to the probe concerning the gold-plated T-56 firearm discovered at the Havelock City super housing complex. Following his arrest, he was produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court and remanded.

Subsequently, on the 14th, the former MP was released on bail after the court considered his bail application.
