Maradana Police have taken into custody five female students from a leading girls’ school in Colombo on allegations of drug use.
Police stated that the arrest was made following a phone call from the school principal, reporting that a group of Year 09 students were suspected of consuming drugs within the school premises. Responding promptly, officers visited the school and brought the five students to the police station for further questioning.
During interrogation, four of the students revealed that one of their classmates had provided them with the drugs. Upon further investigation, the student in question confessed that she had initially brought three pills to school—consuming one herself and giving the other two to friends, who reportedly ingested them in the school toilet.
She further admitted that at her friends’ request, she later brought three additional pills to school. She gave two pills to another student, who consumed them, and continued to take two pills herself over the next two days.
The student disclosed that she had obtained the pills from an individual residing in the Malwatta area of Mattakkuliya.
Following this revelation, the suspect believed to have supplied the drugs to the student was arrested. Authorities confirmed that he was found in possession of two types of narcotics at the time of arrest.
A senior police officer stated that investigations are ongoing.
