The Sri Lankan Army has been accused of engaging in illegal sand mining activities in the Akuressa area.
Allegations have also emerged that Army personnel assaulted a youth who was recording video footage of the alleged sand mining incident.
The injured youth has been admitted to hospital for treatment.
