The Railway Department, in collaboration with the Central Cultural Fund, has launched a new initiative aimed at enhancing the tourist appeal of the iconic Nine-Arch Bridge in Ella Demodara and its surrounding area.
According to the Railway Department, the objective of this project is to illuminate the site with electric lights, thereby allowing tourists to visit and experience the area during nighttime hours.
Commenting on the initiative, Railways General Manager Dhammika Jayasundara stated that the program is scheduled to be implemented starting from August.
“Once the site is upgraded and attracts more visitors, a nominal fee will be introduced for entry. We expect to charge a minimum amount from domestic tourists,” he added.
General Manager Jayasundara also shared updates on a separate tourism-related project near the Nanu Oya Railway Station, where old train carriages have been repurposed into a tourist hotel.
“This facility has been designed to offer tourists a unique and memorable experience. We are working towards completing the development and expect to open it to the public by the beginning of August,” he said.
