The Colombo High Court has scheduled the case against former Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal and four other defendants to be heard on October 10. The case relates to allegations that the Sri Lankan government incurred a loss exceeding Rs. 1.8 billion due to the investment of public funds in Greek bonds in 2012.

The matter was taken up today before Colombo High Court Judge R.S.S. Sapuvida.

During the proceedings, the legal representative for the Bribery Commission informed the court that the case files would be handed over to the defense today.

It was further revealed that the defense has filed three revision applications before the Court of Appeal, challenging the High Court’s dismissal of preliminary objections raised in this case. These petitions are scheduled to be considered on September 19.

Taking this into account, Judge Sapuvida noted that it would be appropriate to fix a date after the Court of Appeal hears the revision applications. He also emphasized in open court that he would not allow the case to be called merely for demonstrative purposes.

Accordingly, the next hearing has been set for October 10, 2025.
