Postal and Telecommunications Officers’ Association to Stage Two-Day Strike Over 15 Key Demands
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Postal and Telecommunications Officers’ Association has announced that it will launch a two-day token strike on the 29th and 30th of this month in protest over 15 unresolved issues affecting its members.

Key concerns include the non-approval of the Civil Service Constitution, non-payment of the civil service allowance, the failure to halt the deployment of external workers, the non-payment of overtime exceeding 100 hours in administrative offices, and the lack of an increase in the travel expense limit for civil servants.

General Secretary of the Association, Manjula Bandara Jayasundara, stated that although several rounds of discussions were held with the Postmaster General and the subject Minister to address these grievances, no tangible outcomes were achieved.

He further emphasized that the postal administration has not implemented the solutions and agreements reached during discussions held with the Minister on March 7th and May 2nd.

As a result, the Association has decided to proceed with the two-day strike. Jayasundara added that future actions beyond the token strike will be determined at the working committee meeting scheduled for the 1st of next month.
