India has officially become the fourth largest economy in the world, overtaking Japan, according to B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, Chief Executive Officer of the National Institution for Transforming India, commonly known as NITI Aayog.
Subrahmanyam made this announcement while addressing the media following the 10th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog.
He revealed that India’s economy has now surpassed the US$ 4 trillion mark. Citing data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), he confirmed that India’s economy is now larger than that of Japan.
Only the United States, China, and Germany now have economies larger than India’s, he stated.
Subrahmanyam also emphasized that if the country continues with its current development plans, India is poised to become the third largest economy in the world within the next two and a half to three years.
