Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa extended his heartfelt gratitude to all citizens who supported the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) during the recent local government elections. In a special statement made today, he saluted those who stood by the party amidst insults, threats, mudslinging, conspiracies, and numerous challenges. He also paid his respects to all Sri Lankans who took a stand to strengthen the country’s democratic process.
Premadasa noted that the government, which secured two major mandates in the recent Presidential and General Elections, has experienced a significant decline in just six months. He emphasized that the people have delivered a clear message: it is time for all opposition parties to unite and work collaboratively.
Commenting on the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), the Opposition Leader accused the party of conducting the local government elections in the same manner as a Presidential election and of exploiting religion for political gain.
He further stated that the people of Sri Lanka have rejected falsehoods and have embraced a more truthful approach to governance. He called upon all opposition forces to come together to defeat deceit and deliver a transparent, honest, and robust public service.
“As defenders of democracy, we bow to the will of the people. It is our responsibility to unite all opposition forces and serve the nation with integrity, respect, and transparency,” Premadasa declared. “The Samagi Jana Balawegaya stands ready to take on this leadership role in meeting this vital and challenging responsibility.”
