President Anura Kumara Dissanayake made an urgent visit to Kandy on the evening of April 24 to assess the situation as more than 400,000 devotees gathered for the ‘Siri Dalada Vandana’, overwhelming local authorities.
In response to the large influx of pilgrims and the resulting congestion, the government has issued a public advisory urging citizens to refrain from travelling to Kandy over the next two days. Additionally, special transport services from Colombo to Kandy have been suspended due to the ongoing unrest and severe traffic disruptions.
