The Board of Governors of the President’s Fund, chaired by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, has decided to extend financial assistance to families whose children face daily hardships due to wild elephant attacks, ensuring they can continue their education.
Priority will be given to families who have lost loved ones or suffered injuries due to such attacks. Additionally, children from families whose property and crops have been damaged by wild elephants are also eligible to apply for assistance.
As determined by the Divisional Secretary’s assessment, eligible families must have children studying from Grade 1 to the GCE Ordinary Level or GCE Advanced Level. To qualify, the family must have been affected by a wild elephant attack on or after January 1, 2025, and must not already be receiving benefits from the GCE Advanced Level Scholarship Program administered by the President’s Fund.
Under this initiative, selected students from Grade 1 to Grade 11 will receive Rs. 3,000 per month for a maximum period of 12 months, while students in Grades 12 and 13 will receive Rs. 5,000 per month for the same duration. The program is set to commence on April 1, 2025.
All Divisional Secretaries have been instructed to collect details of eligible children within their respective divisions. They are required to personally oversee the application process and submit the relevant applications, along with their recommendations, to the Secretary of the President’s Fund without delay.
