The police have initiated extensive investigations to apprehend the suspects involved in the recent shootings in Weliweriya and Akmeemana.
According to the police, a total of seven special teams have been deployed for the investigation.
In Weliweriya, a shooting incident occurred last night (13) at Araliyagasdeka Junction, leaving one person injured. The victim, a 26-year-old resident of Udugampola, was shot while traveling in a motor vehicle and is currently receiving treatment at Gampaha Hospital. To track down the perpetrators, three police teams have been assigned to the case.
Meanwhile, in Akmeemana, Galle, a separate shooting incident took place in the Thalagaha area yesterday (13) afternoon. The victim, a former assistant superintendent of the Boossa High Security Prison, was fatally shot while in his yard. Two assailants on a motorcycle opened fire before fleeing the scene.
Following the attack, police discovered two abandoned motorcycles, believed to have been used by the suspects, in the Yakkalamulla area. The shooting was carried out using a 9mm pistol.
The victim, a 61-year-old retired officer, had served at the Boossa High Security Prison and retired in March last year. In response to the incident, four police teams have been deployed to conduct investigations.
Authorities continue their efforts to arrest those responsible for both incidents.
