Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organizer Namal Rajapaksa has been summoned to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today (26).
According to the Ministry of Public Security, Rajapaksa has been called in to provide a statement regarding the Airbus deal linked to the controversial Kapila Chandrasena, the former CEO of SriLankan Airlines.
The deal, signed in 2013, involved the purchase of 10 Airbus aircraft for SriLankan Airlines. Investigations by the UK’s Serious Fraud Office uncovered that a bribe of USD 16.84 million was paid in connection with this transaction.
Further inquiries revealed that USD 2 million was deposited into a Brunei-based account belonging to Kapila Chandrasena’s wife. It was also discovered that funds from this account had been transferred to other accounts.
Against this backdrop, Namal Rajapaksa has been summoned once again by the CID, amid ongoing court proceedings, arrests, and bail orders related to the controversial deal.
