Train operations on the Batticaloa railway line have been severely disrupted following a tragic collision between the Batticaloa Express train and a herd of elephants in the Galoya area.
According to the Railway Department, the train, which was en route from Batticaloa to Colombo, derailed in the early hours of this morning (20). Reports confirm that six wild elephants lost their lives in the accident.
As a result of the incident, train services on the Batticaloa line have been restricted. The Railway Department has also announced the cancellation of the Pulathisi train, which was scheduled to operate from Batticaloa to Colombo.
