A Gazette notification has been issued confirming the resignation of Mr. Ashoka Sapumal Ranwala from his position as Speaker.
The notification, signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. N.S. Kumanayake, states that Mr. Ranwala officially resigned from his post, effective December 13.
Following this resignation, it has been decided to propose a candidate from the opposition to fill the now-vacant position of Speaker.
