Former Solicitor General Ayesha Jinasena is expected to be appointed as the Secretary to the Ministry of Justice, according to reliable sources.
Jinasena, a veteran with over 30 years of service in the Attorney General’s Department, had previously been considered for elevation to the Supreme Court. However, in April this year, the Supreme Court issued an interim order restricting the President and the Constitutional Council from appointing Supreme Court judges other than the Chief Justice.
In related developments, Senior Additional Solicitor General and President’s Counsel Viraj Dayaratne is reportedly set to assume the role of Solicitor General.
Additionally, the Constitutional Council has received 17 applications for the position of Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, signaling a keen interest in the critical anti-corruption post.
