Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya has announced plans to submit a comprehensive assessment report to the Cabinet concerning the security arrangements for former presidents.
Based on this report, the Cabinet will determine whether to adjust the security provided to former presidents, Weerasuriya stated.
The assessment is being prepared following the recommendations of a committee appointed specifically to evaluate the security needs of former presidents. The IGP will submit this report to the Cabinet through the Ministry of Defense.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake recently appointed a three-member committee to examine all aspects of security and facilities for former presidents. The committee’s findings are expected to be presented to the President in the near future.
