The Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) and the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) marked the successful conclusion of the Cluster 3 inter-faculty competition of the ‘Varsity Battles’ 2024, recently at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute. This engaging event brought together teams from six esteemed universities: the University of Moratuwa, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, University of Ruhuna, University of Colombo, University of Kelaniya, and University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

In this third cluster event of the ‘Inter-Faculty’ stage, 33 teams demonstrated their expertise across a range of subjects, including capital markets, general knowledge, Sri Lankan economy & business, current affairs, sports, and entertainment.

Each of the six universities recognized its top-performing teams, who now advance to represent their universities in the National Level competition.

The University of Ruhuna will be represented by one team from the Faculty of Medicine and two from the faculty of science. The University of Moratuwa will be represented by three teams from its Faculty of Engineering, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka by three teams from its Faculty of Medicine, and the University of Sri Jayewardenepura by three teams from its Faculty of Management. The University of Colombo fields two teams from the Faculty of Law and one from the Faculty of Management. Lastly, the University of Kelaniya will participate with one team each from the Faculties of Management and Medicine.

The Cluster 3 champion team was Team No. 1 from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Moratuwa, winning a Rs. 100,000/- cash prize and advancing to the highly anticipated National Level competition.

As these accomplished teams progress to the final stage, they will compete with top teams from Clusters 1 and 2 for the ultimate title of ‘Varsity Battles’ 2024 champions. The National Level competition promises significant rewards, with cash prizes of Rs. 400,000/- for the winning team, Rs. 300,000/- for the first runner-up, and Rs. 200,000/- for the second runner-up.

This initiative is proudly supported by key sponsors, including platinum sponsors Bartleet Religare Securities (PVT) Ltd and First Capital Holdings PLC, alongside co-sponsor Motorola by Abans.

This quiz competition showcases the SEC and CSE’s continued commitment to enhancing capital market education, fostering financial literacy, and building a legacy of informed, financially savvy young professionals who will play a vital role in shaping Sri Lanka’s economic future.
