As Türkiye marks the 101st anniversary of its Republic, communities nationwide are coming together in diverse activities to honour this momentous occasion. From tree-planting ceremonies to historical reenactments, citizens are actively engaging in events that reflect the Republic’s values and achievements.
His Excellency Semih Lütfü Turgut, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka, commemorates this anniversary with a message celebrating Türkiye’s journey as a modern, secular, and democratic nation, tracing its origins to the independence movement led by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Ambassador Turgut acknowledges Türkiye’s accomplishments in defence, technology, education, and diplomacy, while highlighting the vision for the “Century of Türkiye,” as presented by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. He emphasizes Türkiye’s significant role in global peace and diplomacy, supported by one of the world’s largest diplomatic networks.
A key component of Türkiye’s foreign policy, the “Asia Anew” initiative, seeks to strengthen ties with Asia, with South Asia—particularly Sri Lanka—playing a prominent role. Ambassador Turgut underscores the long-standing Türkiye-Sri Lanka relationship, deepened by mutual support in times of crisis and growing tourism, facilitated by direct flights between the two countries. He expresses optimism that under Sri Lanka’s new administration, bilateral ties will further expand in areas such as economy, trade, defence, and culture.
Ambassador Turgut concludes with warm wishes for continued cooperation and friendship between Türkiye and Sri Lanka.
