Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture have expressed surprise that no formal investigation has yet been conducted into the international cattle theft that took place in Sri Lanka.
The massive fraud occurred during the importation of cattle under the previous Yahapalana government. Despite media allegations at the time, the government’s leadership took no steps to initiate an inquiry.
Reports from that period suggest it was the largest cattle theft in Asia. Ministry officials are now calling for an immediate investigation, urging that all individuals involved in the theft be held accountable and brought to justice.
There are also claims that the minister implicated in this scandal is someone who has switched political parties multiple times.
