President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has directed officials to provide immediate relief to individuals impacted by the adverse weather conditions that have recently affected the island.
He also instructed the Secretary of the Ministry of Defense to prioritize the safety of residents in districts affected by floods and landslides, ensuring that necessary support is provided for the effective implementation of relief services.
The President emphasized the government’s commitment to delivering essential aid to all those affected by this emergency situation. He encouraged individuals in need of assistance to reach out to government officials in their respective provinces and urged the public to remain cautious during this time.
Additionally, the President has directed the Ministry of Finance to allocate 50 million rupees for relief efforts and has advised government officials to collaborate closely to ensure the efficient distribution of aid.
According to the Disaster Management Center, 24,492 individuals from 6,018 families have been affected by floods and landslides across 11 districts due to the recent inclement weather. Currently, 2,200 individuals from 584 families are being accommodated safely in 23 relief centers.
Relief operations have commenced in coordination with government officials across all disaster-affected districts, facilitated by the Office of the Chief of Defense Staff.
