The Bribery and Corruption Investigation Commission is reportedly preparing to take legal action to freeze the assets of seven individuals, including politicians, government officials, and military officers. The Commission alleges that these individuals have accumulated significant wealth that is inconsistent with their declared salaries and has initiated investigations into these claims.
While the accused maintain that their wealth is derived from inheritances received from family members or close relatives, the Commission asserts that this explanation does not hold up under the ongoing investigations.
Furthermore, reports indicate that the Commission plans to file indictments in the High Court against two influential ministers from the previous government who have failed to satisfactorily explain the origins of their assets.
Additionally, the Commission has launched an investigation into a driver of a minister who recently purchased a luxury house in Kuruduwatte. Investigations are also ongoing regarding former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella.
