This morning (19th), a man was shot and killed at a fish shop in the Agraiyapana area within the Midigama police jurisdiction.

According to police reports, two unidentified assailants arrived on a motorcycle, carried out the shooting, and fled the scene. The victim has been identified as 38-year-old fishmonger Calum Chaturanga.

Preliminary investigations suggest that this murder is linked to an overseas organized crime syndicate.

Two other individuals who were present at the fish shop at the time of the incident were also shot and have been admitted to Matara General Hospital. The victims, aged 38 and 72, sustained injuries in the attack.

Police further revealed that the deceased is the brother of Wijesekara Gamachge Amila Sandaruwan, who was shot and killed on August 4, 2022, at a hotel in the Ahangama police division. Investigations into this latest incident are currently being conducted by the Midigama Police Station.

In a separate incident, a person was fatally shot last night (18th) around 10:00 PM in the Sarankara Road area of Dehiwala. Police Media Spokesperson DIG Nihal Talduwa stated that two individuals on a motorcycle carried out this attack as well.

Meanwhile, another shooting occurred yesterday evening in the Nalagama area of Tangalle. The victim, who was shot in a densely wooded area in Dematawalwatta, Tangalle, succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to the Tangalle hospital.
