Election Commission Introduces Measures to Ensure Transparency and Security in Ballot Transport
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Election Commission has announced that party representatives will be allowed to follow the vehicles transporting ballot boxes from polling stations to the designated counting centers after voting, should they wish to do so.

Chairman R.M.A.L. Ratnayake stated that this decision was made in response to concerns raised by certain parties, who expressed doubts regarding the secure delivery of ballot boxes to the counting centers.

In line with this, an authorized representative may follow the vehicle transporting the ballot boxes up to the final police checkpoint near the counting center.

Additionally, Ratnayake stressed that voters will not be permitted to carry mobile phones while casting their votes. Furthermore, activities such as taking photos, recording videos, carrying weapons, smoking, and consuming alcohol are strictly prohibited within the polling centers.
