The court ordered the Bribery Commission yesterday (28th) to immediately arrest the customs officers who assisted in the importation of high luxury modern vehicles into Sri Lanka through fake methods and the officers of the Motor Transport Department who assisted in the registration of those vehicles. The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court also ordered the Bribery or Corruption Investigation Commission to conduct an immediate and extensive investigation and arrest the officials of the Motor Transport Department who acted in connection with more than one hundred vehicles that were not cleared by the Sri Lanka Customs.
The Bribery Commission informed that based on information received by the Secret and Intelligence Investigation Unit of the Bribery Commission, an extensive investigation was conducted regarding many vehicles including luxury jeeps that were not cleared by the Sri Lanka Customs.
During that investigation, three vehicles taken into custody by the Bribery Commission were presented before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court. The court ordered that the said vehicles be taken over to Sri Lanka Customs for further customs investigation.
The court also ordered to arrest and present the persons who had not been submitted to the Bribery Commission for the relevant vehicle customs investigations based on court orders.
