The Supreme Court has issued an interim restraining order preventing Mr Deshbandhu Tennakoon from serving as the Inspector General of Police.
This order was issued in response to nine fundamental rights petitions filed by His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith Thero and others, seeking to annul the President’s decision to appoint Mr. Tennakoon to the position.
The court has also directed the President to appoint a new police officer.
