The second phase of the flyover project, constructed over the railway line between ‘Kompanjaveediya’ and Judge Akbar Mawatha, was inaugurated today (11) by President Ranil Wickramasinghe. This project, undertaken by the Ministry of Transport and Highways for 5,278 million rupees, aims to alleviate traffic congestion and delays caused by the frequent closure of railway gates for 109 daily train journeys.

Executed by Maga Engineering under the oversight of the Road Development Authority, this initiative addresses the significant traffic issues in the Kompanjaveediya area. This bustling commercial zone, home to government offices, hospitals, religious sites, restaurants, and movie theatres, experiences nearly three hours of daily delays due to the railway crossing.

With the completion of this flyover, travel from Kompanjaveediya to Gallumudoora and the President’s Secretariat will be smoother, reducing traffic jams and contributing to the national economy by saving commuters’ time.

The event was attended by key figures including Bandula Gunawardena, Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media; Sagala Ratnayake, Chief of Presidential Staff and Presidential Senior Adviser on National Security; and Ranjith Rubasinghe, Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Highways.
