A governor is appointed as a representative of the President for the respective province and not as a representative of a political party in the country. We think so and we know so. A governor cannot really do politics. A governor can exercise executive powers. But by implementing it, it is not expected to represent the party that represents the president in question. He is a representative of the state. Then he belongs to the country. Or to the government. The public means the government. The fact that the political party representing the government and the people is the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, the United National Party, the People’s United Front, the United People’s Force, and the Janata Vimukthi Peramuna cannot be relevant to the Governor. He has the ability to portray the role of the governor while handing out positions and attending functions. It is possible to pretend to be the governor. He has the ability to act as the governor. He has a special power in the state. That’s true. But the governors of Sri Lanka are now seeing how the governor’s powers are being used politically in some places. We do not know whether the governors will be allowed to do such politics. I don’t know if we feel that way because of our ignorance. Sometimes governors don’t even know if they can do politics. We have seen that at one time in the Southern Province, a governor was appointed and this governor, with or without using his powers, gave letters of appointment to the former chairmen and representatives of the local government bodies that have been dissolved. So by now we know that these local government bodies have been dissolved. Their positions are not implemented. We don’t even know if they will get the name in the future or not. So there is a problem, it seems that the former members are taking membership of new parties and joining new groups and joining new political projects. So we know that some people are a little afraid.
It has been reported to ‘Motherland’ that within the next few days, the other governors are also going to appoint the former chairmen and MPs of the local government bodies to monitor the development projects launched by the governor’s offices. Therefore, with this news, we can see that when a major level election is being prepared, we have come to a point where there are questions whether it is possible to do this kind of work within a country by using state power in a very serious way and using state resources. We have to question who has given this power to the representatives of local government bodies or others in local government bodies. Because he is not able to act as a representative of political parties in giving positions to representatives of local government bodies or to any other group or to anyone.
Now at this time we know that Seppadavijja is using various tactics using state power to retain his political power. Our country has reached the point where it is playing every trump card it can play to protect its power. We know that when a major election is around the corner, it is forbidden to do such things. It was a time when no position could be distributed. Since it was not possible to do these things at that time, we also have a question whether to do them now. However, no one has the power to do this kind of work by using all government power, using government money, using government positions, using government vehicles, using government buildings, and using government officials. Only state-level deals can do that.
If someone is doing a political transaction that is not a state-level transaction, we believe that it is not only undisciplined but also illegal. In our country, we have the habit of doing illegal and unethical things, so we can do these without saying anything. But we are not talking about the related incident. We are assuming that the relevant event or some subsequent events may be so. Therefore, do not misunderstand that we called this incident anti-government and indiscipline. There is a possibility that it will happen. We are speaking according to our level of knowledge. If not, we apologize for that. Because after saying something like this to the country, some officials still have political power. They are officers. They are government representatives. They are the people who are carrying out their assigned work to serve the public by holding their positions with the public’s tax money and the privileges given by the public. That’s why we tell them that if they don’t neglect their duties and responsibilities if they don’t become political and work with humanity, they can always become the men of the age in this country. But if you go political, you will not be able to control the country, let alone control yourself.
