The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has decided to expand the inquiry into the assets of former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella by looking into the earnings of his close relatives and employees.

A senior CIABOC official said the required action would be taken in the next few days. He said the explanations given regarding the wealth gained by Mr. Rambukwella and family members had not been satisfactory, and therefore a decision had been taken to probe the assets of other family members.

The Colombo High Court this week ordered that 16 fixed deposits and three insurance policies of the former minister, his wife, three daughters, and a son-in-law be frozen until October 4.

Earlier, the CIABOC suspended the accounts under its powers for a week. Thereafter, Deputy CIABOC Commissioner Subashini Siriwardena sought a court order from the High Court. The order freezing the accounts was issued by High Court Judge Manjula Tilakaratne.

Mr Rambukwella and other senior Health Ministry officials are facing charges related to the import of substandard human immunoglobulin vials.
