The election commission says that the election law is still in force in the country as the polling of the local authorities has been postponed and the polling has not been completed. Sri Lanka Latest News
The Commission stated that this law is in force as per Article 104 “A” of the Constitution.
In this situation, they also point out that no political party, group or candidate should be promoted during the period in which the local government election law is in force.
The Election Commission stated that a special gazette and circular has informed the heads of all government institutions that no state property should be used for that purpose.
The Election Commission also issued a statement saying that Gazette No. 2313/32 and Circular No. 20 issued on January 5, 2023, will remain in force accordingly.
Accordingly, the Election Commission stated that it is a punishable offense to act in a manner that violates the election laws during this period.
The Commission also requests all parties to comply with the provisions and circulars issued by the Election Commission to conduct the upcoming polls in a free and fair manner.
