Information was reported to us about a schoolgirl who saved two lives by swimming in the great flood in Padukka Waga Nandaipola area. 17-year-old Charithma Jinendri Maitipe is studying at Padukka Siri Piyarathana Vidyalaya. (Sri Lanka Latest News)
With the heavy rain that fell recently, the violent current of the Wak Oya flowing near the market had suddenly risen.
With this sudden flood in the middle of the night, many people abandoned everything and ran to higher places to save their lives. That is due to the flood situation developing from a height of about 10 feet in a few moments.
Charitma’s grandmother and grandfather ran to a mountain behind the house and saved their lives. At that time, when Charitma was coming out of the window of the house, a sound was heard shouting to save herself.
Charitma, who acted immediately on hearing the scream from a distance, went to a nearby building, brought a plastic rope and swam towards them.
Then the husband and wife, who cried for help, were taken to the top floor of a three-storey building with the help of the rope.
Charithma Jinendri Maitipe’s daughter’s parents are both staying in Colombo for work, so she and her brother live with their grandmother and grandfather in this house.
All her certificate books were washed away in the river. Even though the flood took away everything she needed for her education, she still smiles and looks at it expectantly.
It was because of the mental healing of being able to save two lives than anything she had lost.
Isn’t she really a hero who saved two more lives by risking her own life?
