Police Conduct Nationwide Hunt for 25,000 Missing Army Personnel: Sri Lanka Latest News

The Army Police and the Provincial Police have started investigations to arrest 25,000 army personnel who have taken leave from the military camps and went home without returning to the camps. (Sri Lanka Latest News)

In the last five years, the number of military personnel who did not return from such leave is 54,000, of which 10,000 have returned to service, and 18,000 have returned and left service under amnesty, said Major General Rashi, the military spokesperson. Mr. Kumara told ‘Mawrata’.

Since 2009, the number of police arrests for various illegal acts is 796, and among those people, there are 179 military personnel.

The Army Media Spokesman also said that 264 military personnel have been arrested by the police for murders, assaults, weapons misappropriation, sexual abuse and child abuse.

Among them, 146 people have been arrested for theft.

Fewer people are re-enlisting than are retiring from the military each year, and last year the number was 3,000.
