He says that there have been reports of glass shards found in vials containing antibiotics.
Talking about the container containing the antibiotic called Meropenem, he revealed that the supplier who supplied the antibiotic had failed in the condition of the stock of medicine that had been brought earlier.
In the meantime, health trade unions have accused the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation of acting as the importer of many containers containing medicines imported from private suppliers in the Welisara, Kelaniya and Wattala customs terminals in an unsafe manner.
According to them, the medicines have been kept unsafe for more than 04 months without any concern about the proper temperature at which they should be stored.
It is said that one container contains drugs worth about one million US dollars.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department has today obtained statements from a senior official of the State Pharmaceutical Legal Corporation to investigate whether there was a real shortage of drugs in the country during the emergency procurement process related to the human immunoglobulin vaccine in question.
It is based on the statements given by the then Minister of Health Mr. Keheliya Rambukwella that there was a shortage of such medicines.
